Organic Chemistry Laboratory Program


All of the Organic Laboratory Courses will meet the first week of the semester.

 

Important information about Q-Dropping the Organic Laboratory:

If you drop the co-requisite lecture course during the semester, you no longer meet the requirements to be enrolled in the laboratory course!  Therefore, the laboratory course must be dropped at the same time.  Student Rule 1.16.4 includes the statement: “If a lecture and companion lab are dropped at the same time, this will count as one Q-drop rather than two.”

Any student discovered providing false information on this form will be charged with academic dishonesty Aggie Honor System Rules.  This charge may be brought at anytime this is discovered, regardless of the point in the semester at which this discovery is made.

 

Chemistry 231

Techniques of Organic Chemistry. (1-3). Credit 2.

Techniques of organic chemistry; preparation, properties of typical organic compounds; separation, purification, analysis, and characterization of organic compounds.

Prerequisites:
The prerequisite for registration in CHEM 231 laboratory is concurrent registration in, or credit for, CHEM 227 and credit for CHEM 112 or CHEM 114.  You cannot be concurrently registered in CHEM 231, CHEM 237, or CHEM 238.

"Credit For" means credit recorded on the transcript for passing this course with a passing grade or for passing appropriate tests to obtain credit.

Chemistry 234

Organic Synthesis and Analysis IV. (1-6). Credit 3.

The synthesis of significant types of organic compounds and study of their properties; laboratory separations of mixtures of organic substances, identification of compounds by functional group tests and preparation of derivatives; instrumental methods of separation, identification and analysis.

Prerequisites:
The prerequisite for registration in CHEM 234 laboratory is concurrent registration in, or credit for, CHEM 228 and credit for CHEM 231 or CHEM 237. 

"Credit For" means credit recorded on the transcript for passing this course with a passing grade or for passing appropriate tests to obtain credit.

Chemistry 237

Organic Chemistry Laboratory. (0-3). Credit 1.

Operations and techniques of elementary organic chemistry laboratory; preparation, reactions and properties of representative organic compounds.

Prerequisites:
The prerequisite for registration in CHEM 237 laboratory is concurrent registration in, or credit for, CHEM 227 and credit for CHEM 102, CHEM 104 or CHEM 112, CHEM 114.  Chem 107 does not fulfill the prerequisite for Chem 237. You cannot be concurrently registered in CHEM 237 and CHEM 238.

Credit For” means credit recorded on the transcript for passing this course with a passing grade or for passing appropriate tests to obtain credit.

Chemistry 238

Organic Chemistry Laboratory. (0-3). Credit 1.

Continuation of CHEM 237.

Prerequisites:
The prerequisite for registration in CHEM 238 laboratory is concurrent registration in, or credit for, CHEM 228 and credit for CHEM 237 or CHEM 231.  You cannot be concurrently registered in CHEM 237 or CHEM 231 and CHEM 238.

Credit For” means credit recorded on the transcript for passing this course with a passing grade or for passing appropriate tests to obtain credit.

Chemistry 242

Elementary Organic Chemistry Laboratory. (0-3). Credit 1.

Operations and techniques of elementary organic chemistry laboratory with emphasis on experiments for students of agriculture.

Prerequisites:
The prerequisite for registration in CHEM 242 laboratory is concurrent registration in, or credit for, CHEM 222 and credit for CHEM 101, CHEM 103 or CHEM 107.

Credit For” means credit recorded on the transcript for passing this course with a passing grade or for passing appropriate tests to obtain credit.
